2026 Tower Team – Captain’s Report

The 2026  season began again with a team of only 11 players, however,  before the matches started we unfortunately lost Abbey through health issues.  Soon after this I was lucky to bring in Michael who was an experienced league bowler.  Later in the season both Ken and Bridget had to withdraw for health reasons, but despite these setbacks we always managed to put out a full compliment of players, which was due to the total commitment of the Tower players and also welcome support from our reserve list.

This year the weather had an adverse effect on our games with many temperatures rising above 30 degrees, but by altering our start times and the flexibility of the players we managed to ensure that none of our games had to be rescheduled.

Most  of this season we were either second or top of the league and many games we managed to win or gain points from a losing position, which was a credit to the players who always pulled together and kept trying till the end of each match for the overall good of the team. One game that sticks out was the week 8 home game against City of Peterborough E, who were unbeaten at this point, winning all of their previous games 10-0 or 8-2, Tower team beat them 10-0 which was a great achievement for us especially as they then went on to finish  2nd and achieve promotion. 

Unfortunately for us a dip in form later in the season allowed 2 other teams to finish above us, so the final league table shows us 3rd with a total of 98 points and 10 games won.  We were only 5 points below the top two teams but a huge 17 points clear of the team in 4th. All of these figures surpass last year’s highs and I am very proud of the Team’s total performance,

Success to me is not gauged only by winning but by ensuring that  the players enjoy themselves when bowling and I would hope that this is the case for the members of our team.

Everyone associated with the Tower Team whether playing, supporting, making the tea or assisting with preparing and tidying the green have a togetherness and stand ready to help each other, which I think is commendable. They are all a real credit to this club  and I am very proud to be their Captain.
