2026 Open Spring Triples

Members,

What a day of changeable weather, a bit of sunshine, short sharp showers and an arctic blast in the wind, but no hail!

We were well supported, not only by our own members but visiting teams as well, three from Bretton, Crowland, Peterborough Sports Club, two from Werrington, Yaxley, Central Park, Mixed Clubs team, Ketton, East Community and six teams from Longthorpe.  The event is very popular with at least half of the visitors having supported us in previous years.

Once again there was some very competitive bowling but that didn’t deter our home bowlers who showed they were up to the challenge and finished up amongst the winners in a very tight day of bowling against some who have bowled at a fairly high level.

We must also thank the helpers who make the day so memorable, Hazel and Dorothy kept the tea and coffee flowing, Richard and Bridget who made sure our green surrounds, including the planters, were well cared for, Abby, Pat, Jenny and Pauline for organising the raffle, a big thank you to all those who donated the prizes.  Everyone who helped with the preparations and clearing up, Stuart with his invaluable help on scoring, (there’s always one or two mistakes on the score cards that have to be sorted) finally I can’t forget our two catering ladies, Jan and Gloria, who provided a first-rate meal.

We now have to congratulate the winning teams in a close fought match, the Winning team was Julie O’Neil and team from Yaxley with 50 points, second was the home team of Tony Benns, with Jackie Knaggs and Alan Bryan, unfortunately Jackie had to drop out after two games and her place was taken by Michael Kennedy, they scored 48 points a very close second. Third place was Val Houghton and team from Werrington and Bretton with 43 points. Fourth place was Ian Duff’s mixed team with 42 points.  Peter as President presented the prizes to the winners and other places, it was clearly a popular result and the feedback I had was that they were all looking forward to Next Year’s competition.
