2026 Knock Out Finals
Members,
Today (Saturday 5 September) we had three of the singles finals, on a very pleasant Saturday, which was a welcome change after a Summer of heatwaves and in recent days welcomed rain.
This morning it was the gents “Presidents Cup” between a very welcomed newcomer Steve B and Colin W who is now proving himself to be a very capable consistent bowler. It was a very good game to watch with Steve showing he has the makings of becoming a capable bowler, but Colin proved to be difficult to beat, a worthy winner.
This afternoon we continued with mixed singles between a very courageous Bridget J, who was playing with a bowl’s injury to her leg and Colin in another final. Unfortunately the game proved too much for Bridget resulting in her forced retirement and handing the game to Colin.
The last game was the Longthorpe Plate between another relatively new bowler Rob H and Richard J. The game started well with both bowlers showing the potential for winning, but as the game progressed Richard’s experience came to the fore resulting in a win.
It was a very entertaining afternoon with two newcomers bowling against experience, to the delight of the very welcomed spectators.
Thank you everyone for your support particularly those ladies who helped with tea and biscuits, a refreshing end to an enjoyable afternoon,
Kind Regards
Richard Harrison
Late afternoon and early evening today (Tuesday 8 September) we were treated to a great nip and tuck match in the last of 2026 knock out Final between David & Terry v Simon & Colin, in the early stages it was a real nip and tuck keeping us all on the edge of seats with some fine displays of bowling and the scores keeping nail bitingly close. Then in the final thirty minutes Simon and Colin started to pull ahead and win the game.
Congratulations Simon and Colin commiserations to David and Terry.
Thank you to those who came along and supported them on another heat wave summer evening as soon as I got home I had a coffee laced with Famous Grouse.
