What a fantastic finals weekend with ideal weather and excellent bowling by our members. Thanks go to all our members who took part in preliminary rounds leading up to this weekend. The change in format of the President’s Cup and the Longthorpe Plate Competitions seemed to be popular with our members and may result in more bowlers taking part next year. Both days were were well supported with a large number of spectators at Saturday’s Singles Finals and twenty spectators today at the Pairs Final.

 

On Saturday there were four Singles finals which were all very competitive: 

Margaret W beat Jackie K to win the Ladies Presidents Cup.

Colin W beat Alan B to win the Gents Presidents Cup.

Terry M beat Roger C to win the Joe Gallagher Shield.

Tony B beat Gordon L to win the Longthorpe Plate.

 

The Mixed Pairs final took place today, which at first looked doubtful as we experienced a really heavy rain storm at 1.00pm and we were getting differing weather reports from online sources but in the event it brightened up into a really pleasant autumn afternoon with a very close match. 

 

Mac and Margaret W beat David L and Terry M to win the Jim McLaghlan Shield.

 

All in all it was an excellent weekend. Thanks go to Terry for organising the knockout games for the Joe Gallagher Shield and the Jim McLaghlan Shield,  To all the members who competed in and supported the Presidents Cup and the Longthorpe Plate Knockout Competitions. The ladies who provided the tea on both days, particularly Jan and Alan and Mac and Margaret who provided the cakes.
